Hot Rod
Heaven Cafe, this was one of my favorite projects
that I had the privilege of working on. Concept
Design by Stephen Ball and Dean Torrence. OCB
Reprographics, where I had worked previously as the
Manager of the Computer Graphics and CADD Division,
called to see if I could work with one of their
clients in building a 3D model. Stephen Ball
brought the project over, showed me the image
below, and described what he and his partner Dean
were trying to accomplish. They wanted to design a
vintage drive-in where the Hot Rods were
permanently parked out front so that the customers
could sit in them and enjoy their meal. Behind the
drive-in is "The Garage", a store where
memorabilia, clothing and other items could be
purchased. We worked on this project for about 3
months working in all the design concepts and
tweaking it per Deans added touches. I was informed
that Dean was the Dean of Jan and Dean, surf and
hot rod music legends, one of my favorite music
groups. Needless to say I was quite surprised to
find this out as my childhood was filled with their
music while I was learning how to skateboard and
surf. We had a great time finishing up the design
concept and became great friends. We also
collaborated on his website that you can see
